project: Student Residence Building
location: Regina, Saskatchewan -- client: University of Regina
completion: 2004
The Students’ Residence Building of the University of Regina consists of two towers, each of twelve storeys, and 4/5 storey north, south and east wings. The buildings are joined by a barrier free underground link, and entrance canopy system at the main floor level completing the pedestrian concourse system that circulates the Academic Green.
The buildings accommodate 690 student bedrooms (140 dormitory style and 550 apartment style bedrooms) together with support facilities such as administration, common areas, student study areas, meeting rooms and other support facilities. The pedestrian concourse at the main floor level features a gentle curved shape and high ceilings with views out towards the Academic Green. This street-like space has conveniently connected the University Library with the Education Building and serves approximately 5,000 pedestrians each day. Most student apartments feature a separate lounge area located at each corner of the towers – providing excellent views of the surroundings. Externally the buildings are finished primarily with split faced Tyndal limestone with pre-finished, standing seam, and flat roof systems.
