The contemplated project, designed in conjunction with Ferguson Architects is suggested for location at the Regina Exhibition Park Grounds, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Connected to existing facilities, including the Queensbury Downs Convention Centre and Racetrack, the Agridome, and other exhibition buildings – as well as being in close proximity to the Lawson Aquatic Centre and Regina Fieldhouse – this new building will create an impressive centre in Western Canada, and bordering American States, for activities including exhibitions, sports, entertainment, and assembly.
It is design to accommodate 40,000 permanent seats, plus 10,000 permanent extendable bleacher seats plus other temporary seating when required. With moveable bleacher seating and other design features, the building will incorporate a high level of flexibility for different functions and activities.
The Saskatchewan Millennia Dome will singularly provide the largest climate controlled, covered area/volume centre between Vancouver, Toronto and Minneapolis, and as such, will fulfill an important geographic and demographic need.
The site location, infrastructure, and site layout has been developed with full consideration to urban planning aspects within the context of Regina, and Saskatchewan. Access to and from the site to air, rail, and road connections is extremely convenient, with ample on site car parking, truck access and parking, media communication vehicles and safe pedestrian access ensuring user compatibility.
The building has a diameter of 202 meters, a height of 63 meters from field level to head of dome, a ‘footprint’ area of 36,140 m2 (including ramps), a volume of 1,728,363 m3 (including ramps) and features an insulated, translucent dome covering, light coloured pre-cast concrete with green tinted glass.
