SEPW Architecture Inc. completed a conceptual design study for the Kelsey Students’ Association in February 2002. The study focused on improving the function and the aesthetic of Henri’s, the student body’s lounge/canteen in SIAST Kelsey Campus Saskatoon. Two options were prepared – one of which significantly altered the canteen’s kitchen. Costs were estimated to be between $222,000 and $233,000. The project was then put on hold until funds could be raised.
Late in 2003, SEPW Architecture Inc. was approached by the Kelsey Students’ Association to evaluate the feasibility of proceeding with the project based on a project budget of approximately $60,000. SEPW Architecture Inc. accepted the challenge and, with the help of the Kelsey Students’ Association, proceeded to shorten the wish list while attempting to maintain a high aesthetic standard. The result was a very well received interior that utilizes ordinary construction materials in creative ways to inexpensively modernize the dated interior. The project was completed on time and on budget.
