The RCMP Centennial Museum—the Force’s official regimental museum—was built on the occasion of the RCMP’s 100th anniversary in 1973.  It was officially opened on July 4, 1973 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Honorary Commissioner of the Force.

On October 5, 2006, the museum officially closed its doors and the collection was moved to the new RCMP Heritage Centre.

Renovations of the 1645m², former RCMP Museum building were completed for a cost of $3.5 million. These renovations included gutting of the building interior and replacement of the interior finishes, washrooms, and recapitalization of the mechanical and electrical systems.  Due to a restricted ceiling height within the existing building, the renovations required that a portion of the structural floor slab be removed in order to achieve sufficient height for a new 225 seat lecture hall.  The building is also home to the Simulators Training Unit, which includes the judgmental and the driving simulator systems.

The building was officially re-opened on September 14, 2009 by the Commissioner of the RCMP under its new name, the “Centennial Building”.
